9th December 1917 - Jerusalem taken by the British forces in Palestine, ending 673 years of Turkish rule

War Front:

1st Batt: Divine Service in am. 1 officer joined the Batt.

2nd Batt: Divine Service in the am led by Rev EV Tanner. A billeting party went to Winnezeele.

4th Batt: There was an inspection of drafts by CO. Divine Service was cancelled due to bad weather.

2/8th Batt: Batt moved to support at Villers-Plouich under the command of Major Davies.

10th Batt: batt moved to a staging camp at Etricourt.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: Reg took the Highest point of the ridge where there was an ancient roman fort. News came of the surrender of Jerusalem. Conditions now bad with squelching bogs from heavy rain and the men were in bivouacs. Batt without any lights at night, not even a candle.

Home Front:

Released Worcester Territorials – MOTHERS’ VISIT TO SWITZERLAND – Two Worcester Mothers have had the privilege of travelling to Switzerland, under the care of the British Red Cross, to see their soldier sons, who are interned there. The mothers were Mrs Webb from Britannia Square and Mrs Green of London Road, their sons are Sergt H Webb and Pte L Green, both of the 8th Worcestershires. They are two of a number of the 8th Battalion who were taken prisoners on February 15th 1916.

Serbian Medal For Bromsgrovian – Staff Sergt Major W Kimberley, D.C.M., of the Flying School Camp, has been on a mission to Serbia and has been awarded the Gold Medal of Serbia.
