28th December 1917 - Worcester Margarine Supplies

War Front:

1st Batt: There was hard frost and more snow. 1 other rank was killed, 1 officer and 4 other ranks were wounded.

2nd Batt: Lt Col HN Weldon (Leinster Reg) joined the Batt and took over command with Major LC Dorman as 2nd in command.

2/7th Batt: 2nd Lts AW Dudley and CJ Cullis reported for duty.

2/8th Batt: Capt SA Godsall rejoined the Batt.

10th Batt: Batt relieved by the 8th Glos and went to Brigade Reserve.

Home Front:

Worcester Margarine Supplies – At a meeting at the Guildhall this morning, the Mayor in the chair, two or three members of the Worcester Food Control Committee met representatives of the retailers of butter and margarine in the city. It was confirmed and stated that for tomorrow there will be plenty of margarine in stock so that there will be no necessity for queues and customers may rely on sourcing a supply.

Alleged Theft At Fernhill Heath – Discharged Soldier Committed – At the County Police Court today Clarence Thomas (25) was charged with stealing £9 in currency notes and money at Fernhill Heath the property of Samuel Rouse. Prisoner was committed for trial at the Quarter Sessions on Monday next.
