24th December 1917 - Worcestershire And The War – Powick V.A.D. Hospital

Rolling casualty count: 8395

War Front:

1st Batt: The Batt spent the day clearing up and preparing to move. Transport had already left.

2nd Batt: Coys at the disposal of Coy Commanders for training.

4th Batt: Batt entered a 2nd phase of training. Y Coy was on the range, then X, Y and Z. Snow interfered with the training.

2/7th Batt: The transport left Equancourt and went to Morcourt on the Somme, arriving at 9pm. The Batt left Etricourt by train at 12 noon and detrained at Plateau Station, Duire and marched to billets at Morcourt, arriving 8pm.

2/8th Batt: Batt entrained at Etricourt at 8pm and arrived at Plateau Station. Men then marched to billets at Bray-sur-Somme. 2 other ranks went to CCS.

Home Front:

Prisoners Of War Sale – Guessing Competition and Collection – The weight of Master Ray Smith’s donkey, “Punch”, which, with the decorated cart, gave a touch of colour to the sale at the Cattle Market on Monday, was ascertained after the sale to be 385lbs. Two gentlemen guessed the actual weight and they will share the first and second prizes.

Worcestershire And The War – Powick V.A.D. Hospital – Another enjoyable evening was spent by the wounded men in this Hospital, when Mr North of St John’s again brought over a party of friends and gave a concert, including banjo solos and duets, excellently played and enjoyed by all.
