15th December 1917 - Bolshevik government in Russia signs an armistice with the Germans, suspending hostilities on the Eastern Front

War Front:

2nd Batt: Batt on fatigues. 2nd Lts Burton and Bryant joined from the 7th Reserves.

4th Batt: W and X Coys were allotted the ranges and carried out 2 practices, 1 application and 1 rapid. It was the final of the Coys Football match at 2pm. Result was Y Coy, 2 goals and X Coy, 1 goal.

2/7th Batt: Batt carrying out salvage work and carrying parties

10th Batt: Batt in reserve. 2 other ranks killed and 3 other ranks wounded.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: An attack on our left pushed forward and Deir el Kuddis became a prominent salient in the Turkish defence.

Home Front:

Worcester Soldier Honoured – Held Up as Example by Lord French – Lord French, who slept in a town on the South East Coast last night, inspected today some troops about to be sent overseas and presented a Military Medal and bar to Sergeant Eagles, of the Worcestershire Regiment, now attached to another regiment. Addressing the parade, Lord French said “You have an example before you in Sergeant Eagles. Do all you can to follow that example”.

Hop Prices – The Hop Controller announces that the prices paid to growers for hops vary from £5 to £10 per hundredweight, according to the quality and the district. Merchants have been instructed to sell to the consumers at a fair rate of profit, but consumers requiring a selection of first quality hops will be charged at a higher price, which must in no case exceed £11.5s. per cwt. This arrangement will hold good until February 14th next.
