21st December 1917 - Food Queues In Worcester

War Front:

2nd Batt: Batt relieved by 5th Scottish Rifles and entrained at St jean to Godewaersvelte and marched back to billets at Winnezeele.

4th Batt: Billets were very good but scattered. Inspection of all troops from 11am until 1pm by the CO.

2/8th Batt: Batt in Front trenches. 1 other rank was killed. 2 other rank rejoined from hospital.

Home Front:

Gheluvelt – Col. Hankey Honoured – Freedom of the City – Today at the Guildhall, the freedom of the City was conferred on Col. E Hankey, who commanded the 2nd Worcestershires when they made their historic counter-attack at Gheluvelt and made firm the British line at a most crucial moment.

Food Queues In Worcester – Early this morning there was a large crowd on the Cross, in the vicinity of the Maypole Dairy Company. The crowd stretched from the shop to the top of Angel Street.
