22nd December 1917 - Worcester’s Own Pantomime – Babes In The Wood

War Front:

1st Batt: It was Brigade Section Rifle Shooting Competition and Officer Revolver Competition. In the Section under 5 men, the Batt was 1st and L Cpl Shelding was the best individual scorer.

4th Batt: Batt in Coy training. All Coys practised shaping out into Artillery Formation from Columns of Route. There were also physical games and bayonet fighting plus special classes for signallers and Lewis gunners.

2/7th Batt: Batt relieved by Howe Batt, RND at 5.35pm and moved back to Havringcourt Wood.

2/8th Batt: Batt relieved by 2nd RMLI and returned to Havringcourt Wood. 2 other ranks to CCS.

10th Batt: Batt proceeded to the Front line and took over from the 9th Welsh in left sub-sector of Brigade front. 2 other ranks wounded.

Home Front:

The Tribunals Pershore – The National Services Department asked for a review of the certificate of Alfred Downes, married, aged 40, employed by Mr G R Summers of Birlingham, on the ground that he was not in the same occupation, and his retention was not in the national interest. He obtained a certificate as a cowman. Certificate withdrawn. John Hurd, Pinvin, married, aged 40, was appealed for by his employers, Messrs Broadbent and Stevens, contractors for roof tiling. Letters were read stating that the man was engaged on urgent Government work. Application refused.
