Distress Because Of War – Worcestershire Committee’s Work – A meeting of the Executive Committee for the Prevention and Relief of Distress was held on Saturday. The first case considered was one of a widow, whose six married sons had served, three being killed. Before the war they had given her casual help, but their allotments were made to their wives and now that she was unable to help she had no means. The Committee had made her grant of 5s a week and the Chairman suggested this should be continued and said that a woman that had given six sons to the Army could not be allowed to starve.

Schoolmasters And Military Service – Several teachers had been before the County Tribunal on appeals made by the school managers, but they had to send them into the Army. As these men would not have been allowed to join up earlier by the Board of Education, it would be unfair if they were not placed on the same terms as the others so far as County Council salary payment was concerned.
