6th December 1917 - City Council More Salary Questions

War Front:

2nd Batt: Batt entrained for Brandhoek and from there marched to St Lawrence Camp.

4th Batt: Batt in billets at Warluzel and generally cleaning up. Lt H Croom -Johnson MC took over Z Coy, 2nd Lt HF Beddington took over W Coy and 2nd Lt VC Cornish took over X Coy.

2/7th Batt: Batt erected shelters and bivouacs. Capt H Goodwin was badly wounded.

2/8th Batt: Batt started re-organising and providing working parties. 1 other rank was killed. 1 other rank went to England for a commission.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: Regiment surrounded by a rugged mass of mountains and hills and men could see olive groves, small stone villages with the towns of Ramleh, Ludd and Jaffa in the distance.

Home Front:

City Council More Salary Questions – The Electricity Committee recommended the Council raise the salaries of the following member of staff, the increases to date back to 1st October. Mr Addyman, charge engineer, from £141.14s. per annum of £3 per week and 5s war bonus; Mr Powell, charge engineer, from £133. 18s per annum to £2.15s per week and 15s war bonus; Mr R Smith, station superintendent, from £225 to £250 per annum.

Malvern Urban District Council – The Police And Lighting Restrictions – Mr Swann (Chairman of the Gas Committee) stated that experiments as to shading street lamps had been made, but Supt Sherriff was not satisfied. He said that there was still too much light and he was doubtful whether all the lamps could be extinguished within fifteen minutes of the receipt of a warning.
