Worcestershire World War One Hundred

This Project came together in 2011 under the auspices of the then Worcester mayor, David Tibbutt, as an attempt to make sure plans were co-ordinated across all the different sorts of organisations and individuals who would be interested in commemorating the centenary of the First World War.

Since then Roger Berry and now Pat Agar have continued to facilitate the Project as many more people have joined up, so to speak!

The Steering Group has links with the key areas that will be involved in the commemorative period, including the Heritage Lottery Funded project but the wider Stakeholders Group shows the breadth of commitment and interest there is in the county – and this is very much a county-wide project.

We expect more people and organisations to get involved, to have ideas and plans and to mobilise for what is a very significant commemoration and recognition of the importance of the Great War to our history and culture – and to what we are now, how we think about war, women, differing communities, agriculture, heavy industry, science and technology, health and medicine, art, music and of course, poetry.
