10th December 1917 - Soldiers Entertained At Droitwich

War Front:

1st Batt: Batt in training with platoons in attack. 4 officers joined the Batt.

2nd Batt: Batt moved to billets in Winnezeele area via Poperinghe, St Janster and Watou-Biezen.

4th Batt: Batt commenced the 1st phase of training. All Coys doing platoon drill, handling of arms and PT. Special classes for Signallers, Lewis gunners and NCOs.

2/7th Batt: Batt relieved the 2/4th Oxfords (184th Brigade,) in La Vacquerie sector, right front. Re-enforcement came from the 61st Division Depot. 2 other ranks were wounded.

2/8th Batt: Capt CW Holcraft and 2 other ranks wounded. Batt provided working parties to the Front Line. 3 other ranks to CCS.

10th Batt: Batt moved to Brigade Reserve in the Hindenburg Line at Marcoing, taking over from the 1st Batt Buffs. 2 other ranks killed and 5 wounded.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: The Worcs were relieved by the Glos and returned to the original position.

Home Front:

Soldiers Entertained At Droitwich – A successful concert and tea were given in the Salter’s Hall, Droitwich, to the invalid soldiers of the two Auxiliary Hospitals and others on leave in the town and neighbourhood, some 150 being present.

Hop Business To Be Resumed – The Hop Controller has received from the Valuation Committee their recommendations as to prices and has approved of same. Early this week the factors will receive from the Control Office the schedule of values and on the 12th inst., it will be permissible for factors to commence selling to merchants and next day business will become operative and merchants can commence dealing with consumers.
