Farm Notes By Yeoman – The Lateness Of Spring – The Old proverb – “Never come March come winter” was strikingly exemplified last month from an Agricultural standpoint. It was most unfortunate with the present shortage of labour. It is many years since so little Lenten grain was planted by the first week in April, while the five or more inches of rain which fell in March, have left much of the heavy land in a very unworkable state. Autumn sown wheat, except on land which is water-logged is, in my opinion more promising than many reports indicate.
Cases From Redditch – A sitting of this Court was held at the Guildhall on Thursday. The Court heard a number of complaints by workmen against Messrs S Thomas and Sons Ltd., Redditch, for dismissal without the usual notice or wages in lieu of it. Albert Bott, Redditch said that he entered the employ of Messrs Thomas on August 14th, working on certain tools. On April 1st he was told by the manager that he has finished work. He was awarded £1 damages and 7s fare. In a similar case brought by Ernest Chellingworth the Court awarded him £1.2s.11d and Caleb Turner was awarded £1.8s.4d on a similar application. Other cases against the same firm were adjudicated
