1st July 1917 - Battalion remained in dug-outs by Ypres

War Front

1st Batt: Batt remained in dug-outs by Ypres. HQ and 1 Coy are at Lille gate, 2 Coys are at the Esplanade. Ypres was very heavily shelled throughout the day and 1 other rank was wounded.

2nd Batt: Batt left the trenches at 10.15am and marched to billets in Pommier, arriving at 3.30pm.

3rd Batt: Batt resting and training at Goyesque.

2/7th Batt: Presentation of ribands and parchments to the 183rd Brigade by the GOC Division as follows: Military Medal to Sgt CS Skelding, Pte EF Gardner and Pte F Clarke and Divisional Commander`s Parchment to Pte C Corbette.

1/8th Batt: Batt at Louverval in the trenches. Officers of 8th East Yorks came to reconnoitre the trenches.

2/8th Batt: COC 61st Division presented Military Cross ribbons to Lt RH Stallard and 2nd Lt G Pritchard and military medal ribbons to Sgt E George, Sgt W Tarrant and Pte RTS Parsons. 2 other ranks arrived from Base.

4th Batt: Owing to wet weather, Batt moved to De Wippe Cabaret, near International Corner and provided working parties.

10th Batt: Batt moved to Irish House in Divisional Reserve.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: The Regiment was at Latron, having resumed its duties as Corps Cavalry.
