World Premiere of Commemorative Song Cycle

29th June 2016

RGS Worcester is hosting the world premiere of the song cycle, 'Through these Pale Cold Days' in a commemorative concert in Perrins Hall on the eve of the 100-year anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The music is written by Ian Venables, a former teacher and will be performed by professional musicians Nick Pritchard (Tenor), Benjamin Frith (Piano) and Louise Williams (Viola).

Ian studied music with Richard Arnell at Trinity College of Music, London and later with John Joubert, Andrew Downes and John Mayer at the Birmingham Conservatoire. Described as ‘Britain’s greatest living composer of art song’ (Musical Opinion) and ‘a song composer as fine as Finzi and Gurney’ (BBC Music Magazine), Ian Venables has written over 60 works in this genre, including eight song-cycles.

The RGS Senior String Group will also be performing Mozart Symphony No25 (Excerpt) and Piazzola (Oblivion).

Tickets are available at £15 (£10 concessions) from the RGS Box Office boxoffice@rgsw.org.uk or 01905 613391. RGS students are free.
