26th November 1917 - A rumour is abroad that the V.C. has been awarded to a Worcester soldier

Rolling casualty count: 8216

War Front:

3rd Batt into reserve at Beuvry

Home Front:

A rumour is abroad that the V.C. has been awarded to a Worcester soldier, Pte. Frederick George Dancox, the husband of Mrs. Dancox, of 12 Court, Dolday, Worcester, but there has yet been no official announcement to that effect. Mrs. Dancox has not heard from her husband for about a fortnight and in previous letters he had not mentioned anything which would lead her to believe that he had gained the V.C. The only news which she had had was a letter from one of his comrades who, in a letter home about five weeks ago to his wife said that Pte. Dancox had won the V.C. and the wife showed the letter to Mrs. Dancox. It is very much to be hoped the rumour is justified and that neither she nor her husband will be disappointed of the award (as others at Worcester and Hanley Castle have been).

Worcester Athlete Missing: Mrs. Skinner of 12, McIntyre Road, St. John’s, Worcester, has been informed that her husband, Pte. T.W. Skinner, London Regiment, has been missing since October 26th. He has been in France for about five months. He was a prominent athlete. His brother, Pte. Alfred Skinner was killed in action on October 14th.
