11th October 1917 - THEFT OF BICYCLES

War Front:
2nd Batt: Batt Commanders had a conference at 3pm at Brigade HQ.
1/8th Batt: On being relieved Batt proceeded by trench boards track to Irish Farm, where 2 cookers were waiting with hot food. From there men went to Siege Camp. 2nd Lts Watkinson and Whiston reported for duty from the 46th Infantry Brigade.
3rd Batt: Batt relieved from the Line by the 8th Loyal North Lancs and went to Brigade resort at Windy Corner. HQ and 2 Coys were in billets here and C Coy garrisoned the 5 keeps on Giverny Ridge. The other Coy was accommodated in the Old British Front Line.
4th Batt: Day spent cleaning up and checking casualties
10th Batt: Batt proceeded to S Line, Spoil Bank and relieved the 6th Wilts Reg.

THEFT OF BICYCLES – Young Woman Charged at Evesham – At Evesham County Police Court, Kate Brookes (21) The Kennels, Broadwell, was brought up in custody charged with stealing a lady’s bicycle, value £5.10s., the property of Miss Hilda Savage, Broadway. Miss Savage a housemaid said she rode her bicycle from Willersey to Broadway and left it by the Allotment gate at Mr Collett’s on the Leamington Road and went to see her father in an orchard. On returning she found that her bicycle was missing. Enquiries were made by Inspector Hall and traced the prisoner to her home where he saw the bicycle in the kitchen. The prisoner said “I am very sorry to have done it”. Prisoner was further charged with stealing a bicycle worth £3.10s., the property of Mr Leonard Kemp of Broadway. Prisoner was committed for trial at Worcester Quarter Sessions.
LADY HUNTINGDON’S FREE CHURCH – Sale of Work – On Thursday afternoon there was a large attendance at Lady Huntingdon’s Schoolrooms, when a sale of work was held in aid of the funds for the church.
