24th October 1917 - Battle of Caporetto. Austro-Hungarians and Germans break through the Italian lines on the Isonzo and force a retreat of 140km (90 miles). 300,000 Italian prisoners are taken. Fighting carries on until 10 November.

War Front:

2nd Batt: Batt had use of the range am and were allotted the baths pm.

2/7th Batt: At 2.30pm, Capt. H Goodwin, 2nd Lt HIG Robinson and 50 other ranks raided the enemy trenches immediately south of Railway Cutting. 2 other ranks were killed and 2nd Lt HIG Robinson and 4 other ranks were missing, 11 other ranks were wounded.

2/8th Batt: There was a very heavy bombardment by our artillery and 2 raiding parties went over.

3rd Batt: Batt provided working parties for the forward area.

14th Batt: Batt HQ shifted to Elvertinghe, across the Canal to La Brique, north of Ypres. To assist the work of preparation, whole Batts were brought from the quiet areas to provide working parties in the Salient.

Home Front:

FAMOUS PIANIST IN WORCESTER - A musical programme of great charm was provided on Thursday afternoon at the Theatre Royal, when Mr Mark Hambourg, the famous Russian pianist, paid a matinee visit. Mr Hambourg is one of the greatest exponents of the pianoforte and it is much to be regretted that he does not visit the city oftener.

WORCESTER DIVORCE CASE – Two Co-Respondents – In the Divorce Court today, William Malpas of Worcester, obtained a decree nisi on the ground of misconduct by his wife with two co-respondents, named Yapper and Steed. There was no defence.
