1st April 1917 - Teachers' trade union rejects call to affiliate to the Labour party

Rolling casualty count: 7724

War Front: 2nd Batt: Draft of 1 officer and 30 other ranks joined in am. Church Parade on the Football field, with the massed Drums and Bands playing later in the Square until it rained heavily.

3rd Batt: Batt at La Creche carrying out Coy training.

2/7th Batt: Relieved the 2/8th Worcs at Villeveque. Captain Bowman and his party entered and occupied Attilly. In the evening Batt relieved by 2/4th Glos and moved to Marteville.

2/8th Batt: A strong patrol under Lt DR Bomford proceeded to Attilly and entered the outskirts of town and enemy sentries opened heavy fire. Batt relieved by 2/7th Worcs and returned to Monchy Lagache.

4th Batt: After a march of 12 miles Batt reached the town of Beauval and went to billets in the north end.

9th Batt: Batt patrolling the “Bunds” along the Rivers Tigris and Dial.

10th Batt: Batt moved from Currah Camp to Croix Rouge.

SMD RFA:At 6.30 am the Brigade fired a barrage to cover 142 Infantry, who , with 144 Infantry, attacked Epehy. A successful raid resulted in the capture of a gun and 13 prisoners.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: Regiment reluctant to leave the battle ground as it was the fairest and best watered it had seen since it left Norfolk in March 1915.

Home Front: WORCESTER CITY TEACHERS – Affilitation with Labour Party Rejected – A general meeting of the Worcester City Association of the N.U.T. was held at St Martin’s School on Saturday afternoon. The business of the meeting was a resolution passed by a conference in Birmingham, that the N.U.T. should “seek affilitation with National and Local Labour parties”.

WORCESTERSHIRE VOLUNTEER REGIMENT – Inspection of Evesham Platoon – The Evesham Platoon of the Worcestershire Volunteer Regiment was inspected by Colonel A.H. Hudson, County Regimental Commander on Sunday. The Platoon assembled at the Old Drill Hall at 2.30., about 100 members being present.
