4th April 1917 - Increased Turkish presence in Palestine

Rolling casualty count: 5737

War Front: 2nd Batt: Batt marched at 8am to Neuville via Doullens and Bouquemaison on a wet day-no one fell-out.

2/7th Batt: Batt relieved at Villecholes by 2/8th Worcs and moved to Villeveque. % men were wounded.

2/8th Batt: Batt took over from the 2/7th Worcs. One Coy was in trenches, one in Villecholes, one in trenches on the ridge, one in shelter at the Vermand-St Quentin Rd.

4th Batt: Every man had a change of underwear and a bath.

9th Batt: Batt joined General Marshall`s Column and left the Front.

10th Batt: Batt moved to Acquin to begin training.

SMD RFA: batt moved forward and four guns were moved into action before dawn.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: The Turks' morale had picked up and their forces on the Palestine front were increased in men and guns.

Home Front: Kidderminster Town Council – Increased Rates – The Depity Mayo9r introduced the estimates for the year at the meeting of the Kidderminster Town Council on Wednesday. The amount required for the borough rate was £12,374 and for the general district rate £17,646.

Birmingham Objectors Sentences – Two Birmingham conscientious objectors William Lawrence and Clifford Arkinstall, were found guilty at a Court martial at Norton Barracks last week of refusing to don uniform, have been sentenced to 112 days’ imprisonment, which sentence has been confirmed.
