22nd February 1917 - Cookery lectures and demonstration for next five weeks

War Front: 2nd Batt: A raiding party practised am under Major Storey.It was a misty day.

3rd Batt: Batt relieved by 4th Batt New Zealand Rifle Brigade and moved to billets at Nieppe.

4th batt: Batt settled in and cleaned up. CC and Intelligence Officer went to look at new sector, visiting Combles, Batt HQ and Fregicourt.

2/8th Batt: Everything had to be carries over the top at night as lines impassable. Eleven men evacuated sick.

9th batt: Batt remained by the river bank at Shumran Bend, firing at intervals with rifles and Lewis guns.

10th Batt: Coys working at night near Courcelles. Still much cleaning up.

Home Front: Worcestershire’s Heroism – Warm French Tribute – A French Officer, formerly the Boulogne representative of a Worcestershire brewing firm, but at present serving as interpreter with the British Army to an interviewer said:- My work has brought me into contact with British units drawn from all parts of the United Kingdom. Lately I have been with the Midland men, and was pleased to find among them many old friends who have joined up to fight the common enemy. All your midland troops are doing splendidly and are equal to the finest professional soldiers any nation on earth can boast of. The Worcestershires in particular have a splendid record, and when the full story of their deeds come to be told the people at home will have additional cause for pride.

War-Time Cookery Lectures at Worcester – The first of a series of five weekly lectures and cookery demonstrations was held in the Lecture Theatre, Victoria Institute, Miss Whitfield gave her lecture before a large audience, it was her desire to help others to make best use of foodstuff available while adhering to Lord Devenport’s restrictions.
