27th January 1917 - Theatre and cinema listings

Rolling casualty count: 5365

War Front: 2nd Batt: Batt moved off from Suzanne. The transport and C Coy left at 2.30pm for B Sector, near Curlie. Ist Coy moved to a position near Howitzer Wood. The Batt occupied some good dug-outs in front of the Wood on the eastern slopes of the valley. Nearly all the men had wire beds and were quite comfortable.

3rd Batt: The Corps was working on wiring parties in the neighbourhood of Plougsteert Wood and St Yves repairing damage from enemy bombardment. Weather very cold and the ground ice-bound.

4th Batt: Inspection of Coys by Cos. News came that the 1st Border Reg and the Royal Innskilling Fusiliers reached their objective, taking 6 German officers and 886 other ranks prisoners, with the help of the Newfoundlanders

SMD RFA: The Batt moved one sector forward for wire-cutting.

Home Front: Veterinary Surgeon’s Sudden Death: Robert J. Bushnell, aged about 47, of the Butts, Worcester, a veterinary surgeon (who had lately been employed by Mr. H. B. Hiles), was found dead in bed on Friday. An inquest will be held on Monday.

Silver Cinema: For the first half of next week “Her Wayward Sister,” a story of two sisters and a hunchback will be the chief picture. For the second half of the week “The Soul Market,” a Metro Production, with Olga Petrova, will be the principal picture.

Worcester Theatre: The world famous laughter-maker, “When Knights were Bold,” pays a return visit to the Theatre next week. This excruciatingly funny play has been drawing crowded houses in all parts of the country for years past, and has been to Worcester on previous occasions. Age seems to mellow it, and only serves to improve the flavour of its wit and pungent satire. There will be a matinée on the Saturday.
