Fernhill Heath Centenarian – War Work at 101 – The funeral took place of Mrs Kitching of Fernhill Heath, who died there at the extreme age of 103. She came to that village from Birmingham two years ago and lived with her daughter and granddaughter. The old lady was the youngest member of a well known Derbyshire family called Marsden. The family was remarkable for its longevity. Three sisters lived to be over 80. After reaching the age of 100 she was busily engaged in knitting for the soldiers. The attention of the Queen was called to the activities of Mrs Kitching and a pleasing reply was sent from Buckingham Palace.
