19th December 1916 - Battle of Verdun ends

Rolling casualty count: 5137

2nd Batt: Men were cleaning up the dirty surroundings. A fatigue party was supplied to unload the Deauville train.

9th Batt: The batt entrenched the position and strengthened its defences. The area was now called the Hai Salient.

Home Front:

Plum Puddings for Territorials – Acknowledgement was made in the London press of the receipt of £10 from the firm and employees of Messrs Fisher, Humphries & Co., the Atlas Works, Pershore, to a Christmas Plum Pudding Fund for soldiers. The company requested that the money be applied for the benefit of Territorial Battalions of the Worcestershire Regiment.

R.E. Smoking Concert – A smoking concert was held at St Catherine’s House, London Road, under the auspicies of the R.E. Wireless Depot, Worcester. The entertainment was under the direction of Sap. A Sharp, is well known as a professional caterer of amusements. During the evening cigarettes were handed round, given by Mt Gibberd, tobacconist, The Foregate.
