Worcester War Savings – Appeal to Cinema Audiences – Taking advantage of the showing of the Somme Battlefield film at the Arcade Cinema, the Mayor (Ald. A Carlton) said that as a rule Worcester was very much ahead in starting movements of national importance, but in the matter of these War Savings Associations they had been rather behind hand. A few weeks ago they formed a Committee and since then the movement had been take up with great enthusiasm. Many of the largest manufacturers and big houses of business had each started up an Association and a great number of schools and churches had also formed similar societies. England at the present time was in a critical position, more critical perhaps than anyone knew. The war was costing is £5,000,000 a day and it was “up to them all to do a share towards finding that enormous amount of money”.

Clergy Widows and Orphans – Fewer Applicants for Aid – Members of the Worcester Society for the Relief of Clergymen’s Widows and Orphans met at the Church House, Worcester. The Secretary in his report stated that a sum not exceeding £950 was available for grants, this sum including £100 from the Board of Finance in respect of 1915. Applications for relied were considered from 29 widows and orphans, the number being five fewer than last year.
