30th December 1916 - 1,700 children go to pantomime

Rolling casualty count: 5159

2nd Batt: Batt busy cleaning. There were no parades but inspections of kit etc.

4th Batt: Batt did a route march and a tactical scheme on flank-guards. Lt A Knight took over as Acting Adj and the Vice AA was 2nd Lt Felix.

Yeomanry/Cavalry:

2/7th Batt: Second Lt Beckett was wounded by shrapnel.

9th Batt: Batt still in Reserve lines defending the entrenchment.

SMDRFA: Half the gunners with the Brigade , CO and a subaltern from each battery went up in motor lorries to relieve half of each battery of 240 Brigade.

Home Front:

Cynthia’s Christmas Present 1,700 Children at Worcester Pantomime – When Miss Cynthia Carlton (the six year old daughter of the Mayor and Mayoress of Worcester) was asked by her father what she would like for Christmas, she replied that nothing would delight her more than to invite to the pantomime every child of every fighting Worcester soldier. It was an unselfish desire to that Ald. Carlton and everyone else concerned, Mr Clements, his company, the orchestra and the staff on both sides of the footlights were very anxious to gratify.

Alleged Club Frauds at Stourbridge – William Shaw, ironplate worker, Wellescote, was brought up in custody charged with fraudulently converting a sum of £3.12s. 5d. to his own use. It was alleged that the prisoner collected weekly contributions of 4d each from a number of people, and on dividend night, December 16th he failed to hand over to the members the dividends and left the district. He was committed for trial at Worcester Assizes.
