21st October 1916 - Royal Porcelain appeals for men's exemptions

Rolling casualty count: 4661

1st Batt: Enemy shelling severe and continuous resulting in 11 men killed, 6 wounded and 1 missing.

2nd Batt: Batt marched to billets in Meulte and no one fell out. They were praised by the Divisional Commander.

3rd Batt: Batt made a successful raid on Regina and Stuff Trenches.

4th Batt: Batt very cold and uncomfortable as there was a lack of protection. The day was spent cleaning up. At 11am German aeroplanes passed overhead and were driven away by fire.

10th Batt: Batt marched from Warlay to bivouacs at Brickfields, Albert.

Royal Porcelain Company’s Employees – The Royal Porcelain Company applied for Frederick Gertner (30) married, sedentary work at home, sculptor: Harvey J. Harrison (34) married, china caster, labour at home; and William George Ricketts (32) single, sedentary work at home, china saucer maker. Harrison, it was stated, had lost a thumb of his left hand. Conditional certificate so long as he is without thumb.

Entertainment at Norton Barracks – On Tuesday evening a most enjoyable entertainment was given in the Y.M.C.A., hut by the Norton Depot Pierrot Troupe for the benefit of disabled soldiers of the Worcestershire Regiment.

Twice Used Railway Ticket – Stourport Man “Getting his Own Back” – At the City Police Court today the Great Western Railway Company prosecuted Michael Draper, bricklayer, Brindley Street, Stourport, for defacing a railway passenger ticket and also with attempting to travel on the railway without having paid the fare. He pleaded not guilty to the first offence and admitted the second.
