The long anticipated holiday for munition workers is close at hand. Subject to any emergency due to the exigencies of the military situation, the majority of the controlled establishments will shut down on Wednesday evening for four days, reopening on Monday October 2. In all cases where immigrant war workers intend to proceed home for the four days their employers, if under Government control, are authorised to issue vouchers which will enable them to proceed at a fare and a quarter.

Worcester Board of Guardians: It was reported by the Master that there were only 191 Worcester inmates in the House (the others belonging to Stourbridge), this being the lowest number on record. The Master said he could find no record of the inmates being under 200 in number. He said it was a disgrace to see the class of men passing through the House. Many were 50 or 60 years of age, and were able to work on the land. All those of military age he handed over to the authorities (about 50 men).
