9th September 1916 - Kathleen Salvoni (39) killed by runaway horse on Tolladine Hill.

1st Batt: Batt relieved by the 2nd Royal Berks at about 4pm. They marched to the billets vacated by the 2nd R Berks at Labourse. B Coy went to Gosnay for instructional purposes at the Divisional School of Instruction.

2nd Batt: CO and Coy officers reconnoitred the Line at Fonquvillers. Batt assembled in a field adjoining the camp for inspection and handling of arms.

4th Batt: A very foggy morning. Officers made out a programme of work requiring immediate attention. A patrol of 10 men taken by 2nd Lt H Wiggett in connection with the coming raid, heard the germans working with concrete.

10th Batt: Enemy artillery did much damage to our trenches across Messines Road. Officers` Patrol reported that the river could be bridged and excellent cover is given by the long grass between our front and the river.

The woman who was killed by the runaway horse at Tolladine on Friday morning proves to be Kathleen Salvoni (aged 39), 9, Britannia Row, Worcester. She is a married woman, and had been to visit some friends at Tibberton and stayed there the night. She was coming into Worcester in the early morning when she was knocked down by the cart. An inquest will be held this evening. (see 8th)

Angling: The weather during the week has been most suitable for angling, but the rivers are low and fine, and few rods can boast of good sport. In the Severn, near Lincombe Weir, H. Breden caught eight good chub; H. Green an 8lb. basket of mixed fish and eels, at the Horse Boat; and C. Maund 5lb, roach and dace at Camp. Fair sport was had in places between Diglis and Severn Stoke with maggot and wheat.
