The defendant had been employed by the firm for 20 years. On Thursday he was in the warehouse, but went away for a short time. On his return witness asked where he had been and what he had done with the bag of sugar he had taken away. He said he had not had a bag of sugar, but had taken some dirty aprons away. Witness said he knew he was incorrect and said he would give the defendant half an hour to bring it back. At the end of that time defendant said the sugar had been put into the jam pot. Later Detective Handley and witness went to a little shop kept by defendant’s sister in law, and there behind the counter he found the bag of sugar. MRS Price, sister in law of the defendant said that defendant had brought sugar to her previously and she had paid for it. The prisoner now pleaded guilty.
