Plums wanted for the Navy –Mr John Kent is appealing for plums for the Navy. The Pershore or Egg Plum is so plentiful that he hopes growers will be able to send a few for the men in the Navy. The plums will shortly be too ripe for carrying. Therefore the motto for intending givers is “do it now”.

Death of Lieut. Keen of the Fire Brigade – Lieut. H Keen of the Malvern Fire Brigade , who was injured while on duty at a rick fire, at Park Farm, Blackmore on Thursday, the 17th inst., dies in Malvern Hospital on Monday night. The Brigade were engaged at Blackmore for several hours, the rick affected contained some 80 tons of hay. Lieut. Keen was turning the starting lever of the motor fire engine, when, through a misfire, it flew back and hit him on the head. He was picked up unconscious and taken to the Hospital, but it was seen from the first that his condition was serious, and he gradually sank. The deceased had been a member of the Fire Brigade for many years and was an enthusiastic and able officer. Much sympathy is felt for his widow and daughter. His son in law holds a commission in His Majesty’s Forces.
