5th August 1916 - Croome hunt puppy show

At the Front:

2nd Batt: Tactical exercises in the am and in the evening practicing night outposts and patrolling.

4th batt: Gen De Lisle visited the line at 5.00am and remarked that not enough wiring had been done, pointing out places which required improvement. Again german aeroplanes very active from 5 -7am.

7th Batt: Relieved by the 8th Worcs to support lines at Laventie. D and C Coys in posts Wangeri, Masselot and Road Bend with a Lewis gun.

Yeomanry/Cavalry: At 3.30am the mounted troops were chasing the retreating enemy. 5th Mounted Brigade advanced warily towards Katia Oasis as turks could hide in the old trenches prepared in July.

It was the hottest day of Summer, men and horses were exhausted.

On the Home Front:

Worcester’s War Resolve – In common with other municipalities throughout the Empire, Worcester, on Friday evening, the second anniversary of the War, placed on record the solemn confidence of Britishers in this struggle, and the implacable resolve of the citizens to continue it until glory shall crown our arms.

Croome Hunt Puppy Show - This annual affair took place at the well-appointed kennels near Severn Stoke. The hounds were in the pink of condition and everything connected with the management of them in first class order, as usual, reflecting great credit on Will Friend (the Huntsman) and his staff.
