20th March 1916 - Motor car accident in the Bull Ring

Rolling Casualty Count: 2814

At the Front:

1st Batt: Batt marched from Beugin forward to billets at Compigny.

2nd Batt: German rifle grenades did considerable damage and our Coys retaliated with their Rifle Brigade Battery. Our trench mortars fired a few rounds into the craters.

8th Batt: The planned raid is being rehearsed day and night.

9th Batt: Rameses reached the British Camp at Sheikh Saad and troops could hear gunfire. Day was spent assembling and pitching camp,

Yeomanry/Cavalry: The whole Regiment is concentrated on the Canal at Ballah but rather split up.

On the Home Front:

Rowing: Worcester Cathedral King’s School v Magdalen College School Oxford : The above schools, represented by 1st and 2nd fours, rowed on the Oxford Course. Worcester lost the toss, and accordingly had to content themselves with the Oxford side. Both crews got off well but Worcester went straight away at the beginning. Through the Gut they increased their lead, and up the Willows they were about four lengths ahead. After this Oxford, rowing pluckily, gradually cut down the interval up the barges, and at one time looked like making a close finish of it. Near the end, however, Worcester pulled themselves together for a final effort, and won comfortably with three lengths in hand.

Accident: A motor car, driven by Mr. Dorrell, of Bredicot Court, was crossing from the Bull Ring into the Henwick Road, when it collided with a motor cycle, driven by Mr. Hancock, Albion Villa, Malvern Link. The back wheel of the cycle was smashed. The occupant was not injured.

Infirmary Subscription: The Royal Engineers, stationed at Worcester, who recently played a football match with a team chose by the R.E.’s stationed at Tewkesbury, have forwarded the proceeds, £4 3s. 8d., to the Worcester Infirmary. This is the second donation of the kind, the previous one being somewhat similar in amount.
