Zeppelin Raids

Sir,- it seems to me absurd that towns and villages should be darkened whilst motor-cars with powerful headlights are permitted to roam about the country perhaps guiding the enemy to a desired spot. I would suggest that the local Constabulary could obtain the power detain all cars during a raid and prevent all suspicious cars proceeding on their journey until all danger is past.

Drinking By Women - Lady Georgina Vernon's Appeal

Lady Georgina Vernon presided over the annual meeting of the Diocesan Women's Temperance Society, held at the Guildhall, on Monday afternoon. There was a large attendance. Her Ladyship said there was a distinct call to women to make their homes pure and sober. She had heard of many cases where the demon of drink had entered and ruined homes. They heard that women were drinking more; could it be that sorrow and anxiety had bought that? Not in all cases; in many, with more money came greater temptations.
