Worcester Woman Fined - Heavy Penalty for Abetting Gaming

At Gloucester Police Court today, Bertha Pope, Battenhall, Worcester, was fined £50 and costs for aiding and abetting John and Fanny Payne, 80, Southgate Street, Gloucester, in permitting their premises to be used for gaming.

She was the owner of an automatic Crown slot machine used in Payne’s shop, which she declined to have removed after being warned by the police.

The Paynes were each fined £2 10s. and costs.

Worcester County Court Sale Of Out Door Beer License

Arthur Gardiner, 36, Hylton Road, fruit merchant, against W. Reginald Frazer, 36, St Nicholas Street, auctioneer and valuer, Samuel Isaac Eaton, of Barbers Hill, Martley, being a third party. The action was to recover the sum of £5 alleged to be due from the defendants as money received by him from Eaton, Gardiner arranged with the defendant to find him a purchaser for an Out Door Beer License and Eaton entered into an agreement to purchase it, paying a deposit of £5. Subsequently Eaton wished to withdraw, and the defendant found another purchaser. The judge said that Eaton must have the £5 and the plaintiff must pay all
