Mary Smith was charged with exposing for sale at the Christmas market at Kidderminster a turkey which was marked as weighing 12lbs which was 14ozs deficient of that weight. Inspector Vaughan said he weighed several of the defendant’s turkeys, and all but one were several ounces below the weight marked on them. Defendant said she weighed the turkeys as soon as she had dressed them, and had since been told she ought to have let them get “set” before she weighed them or should have allowed for “sinking.” The Bench did not think fraud was intended, and fined defendant 5s.

Groups Re-Opened: The Worcester Recruiting Depot at Broad Street have received instructions to accept men in the group system, this being in accordance with the Premier’s announcement. The procedure will be the same as before, the men being attested, medically examined, and placed in their respective groups. If any man whose group has been called up presents himself, he will be given a month longer, and will then be called up. Appeals must be lodged within 10 days of attestation. Some of the men in the first groups already called up have received their papers, informing them where to present themselves on the 20th of this month. If there are men who have not had a notice sent to them personally the general notice will be deemed to be sufficient. In this notice they are instructed to communicate with the nearest Recruiting Office.
