On the Home Front:

Body Found in the Severn: About two o’clock this afternoon the body of William Hamsher, a tailor, was recovered from the River Severn. He had been missing from his home for some weeks. He formerly lived in Chestnut Walk, but left that locality to become associated with a business in Barbourne Road. The body was discovered in Diglis Basin by a youth, named Ernest Hubbard.

Worcester Private Seriously Ill: Mrs. Francis, 15, Trinity Street, Worcester, has received official information from the War Office that her son, Pte. James Francis, 25th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, is seriously ill with dysentery at Nairobi. Pte. Francis was formerly employed by the Gas Works as a stoker.

Motor Cyclist’s Offence: George Holden Buckley, Sec. Lieut., of the Royal Engineers, was charged with driving a motor-cycle without a light in front. Defendant pleaded guilty. P.S. Hollis said the defendant was going very slowly and with care. He said that something had gone wrong with his lamp. Defendant now said that was so. The lamp kept going out. He was fined 2s. 6d.

Army Motor Driver Fined: William Markham Dean, whose address was given as the Hop Market Hotel, was charged with driving a motor-car in Foregate Street in a manner dangerous to the public. P.C. Fisher said the defendant came from the Tything into Foregate Street at a furious pace; witness estimated it at 30 miles an hour. Going down Foregate Street was a youth pushing a handcart, and a cyclist was attempting to pass the handcart. The cyclist narrowly escaped being knocked down…Defendant said he was travelling at about 18 miles an hour. He blew his horn for the motor-car in front to get out of the way, but it did not move, and he then passed it. He saw the cyclist and the handcart, and knew he had plenty of room to pass, and he did so. Defendant was fined 40s.
