12th December 1915 - Worcester Christmas Fat Stock Show and Sale

Rolling Casualty Count: 2600

1st Batt: Divine service at 9.00am at Batt HQ.

2nd Batt: Batt relieved by 2nd HLI and then to billets in Annequin. Men extremely fatigued after 4 days in the trenches under abnormally bad conditions.

10th Batt: C Coy 15th Welsh Reg arrived for instructions and one platoon was attached to each Coy.

11th Batt: Batt paraded, drew picks and shovels and marched to start trenches. Steep hills and mist hampered them and it took 5 hours to cover 10 miles. They returned via Derhead Pass where they met a Greek transport column of laden donkeys which delayed them.

CHRISTMAS FAT STOCK SHOW - Excellent Entry of Cattle

There was a real Christmas touch in the air this morning when the Worcester Christmas Fat Stock Show and sale were held. In point of numbers the entries were well up to the average, and in quality they appeared to be as fine a collection of animals as has ever been seen in the market. The cattle numbered 153, as against 132 last year; the sheep 26, against 24; and the pigs 38, against 34. The tendency on the part of the farmers to meet the requirements of the butchers in the matter of weight was again noticeable, and there was an absence of the excessively fat beasts which used to be a feature of the shows a few years ago.
