16th November 1915 - Youth fined for fireworks havoc

1st Batt: Batt moved from billets to trenches south of Bois Jumer, replacing the 11th Northumberland. A,B and C Coys in front line, D coy in support trenches with 2nd Berks and 2nd Northants. Trenches are not good with parapets fallen in . A quiet night.

Bromyard Children's Court – Victor Smith a youth was charged with letting off fireworks in the street. The Defendant pleased guilty.

The evidence of Police Sergeant Thomas was that in consequence of the boy letting off the fireworks a horse ran away. He produced a cracker similar to the one used by the boy and some other fireworks which he said other boys were using. He proceeded to demonstrate the latter but failed to ignite them which brought forth the remark from the Chairman that if he (the Chairman) was a boy he should want better fireworks than those.

The Chairman asked the Defendant if he saw the horse and trap when the firework was let off. The Defendant said no. Fined 2s 6.
