Mr J Hodge, the well known Labour MP was the speaker. The collection would be divided between the Railwayman's Orphanage and the Red Cross Society. Mr Hodge gave… an inspiring address on the question ""Am I my brother's keeper?"" After speaking of our hard won civil and religious liberty, he said that when England went to the relief of Belgium we were seeking an answer to this question.
The Victoria Science and Technical school has now been open for about three weeks during the autumn season…many of the classes have not filled as well as in former years. An interesting sign of the times is reflected in the fact that the French classes are abnormally full…only twice has a faint whisper been heard in the corridors ""is any German being taught?"". It is important to bear in mind that, whilst the war cannot last many years, for obvious reasons, yet commercial rivalry will be as keen as ever when hostilities cease.
