OLD MAN'S SUICIDE AT ASTLEY - worried by the war. The District Coroner Mr G F S Brown conducted an inquest at the Woodend Farm on Friday on the body of Robert Footman aged 71, a shoemaker at the farm whose body was taken out of the Lodge Pool on the previous day. The evidence of the widow was to the effect that the old man had been in poor health lately and that he was much worried about the war. Evidence had been given showing that the man was seen walking in the direction of Worcester at 6am on Tuesday morning and P.C. Wasley said that he recovered the body. He first searched Sharpley Pool without success and next searched Lodge Pools where he found it. In the pocket was a note on which was written "" R Footman in the pool: O, the worry"". The Jury returned a verdict of ""Suicide during temporary insanity"".
