16th August 1915 - Whitehaven in Cumberland, on Britain's west coast, shelled by a German U-boat
3rd Batt: In trenches near La Brique;
Lieut C E W Simes, only son of Mr and Mrs F A w Simes, who went to the front at Easter with his Battalion, 7th Worcs Regt is in Bologne Hospital suffering from a severe attack of Typhoid. His condition last Tuesday was so critical, Mr Simes crossed the channel to see his son. Happily he now shows signs of recovery and may soon be able to return to England. The Worcester Infirmary to be insured for the sum of £12,000 against air raid damage.L/Cpl. Charles Thomas Hutchings 15122
