27th May 1915 - Three more wounded soldiers arrive at Worcester Infirmary

Wounded at the Infirmary: Three more wounded soldiers arrived at the Worcester Infirmary today. They included Seaman Foster, of the Royal Naval Division, suffering from a bullet wound received at the Dardanelles. Six soldiers left the Infirmary to-day on furlough, preparatory to re-joining their respective regiments;

Bromsgrove Shooting Accident: The inquest upon the body of Thomas Audrey Pritchard (23), son of John Pritchard, of the Village Farm, Upton Warren, was held by Mr. E. Docker on Wednesday. Pritchard was fatally wounded on Sunday evening with a bullet from a rifle while out shooting birds upon his father’s farm. Deceased was in the company of three boys – his brother David, George Hanson and William Thomas. Deceased, it appeared, gave the rifle (a Winchester) which was loaded and cocked, to the boy Thomas, and then scaled a gate that led into a field. Thomas rested the rifle on the top of the gate and attempted to get over, when the rifle went off, and the bullet entered Pritchard in the back. He was removed to the Bromsgrove Cottage Hospital, and died on Monday…The Coroner commented upon the danger of firearms being used by inexperienced boys. Probably no blame could be put upon the lad Thomas in this instance, but if an older person had attempted to get over the gate with a loaded gun in his hand the jury would probably have taken a more serious view. The Jury returned a verdict of “Accidental death,” and expressed the opinion that the rifle in question was a most dangerous weapon, as it had only a hair-spring trigger;

City Police Court: Boatman charged: John Lawrence (25), boatman, no fixed abode, charged with stealing a saw, a dandy brush, a jacket, a sou’wester hat, and a pair of gloves, was handed over to the County Police, the theft having been committed in the County.
