21st May 1915 - Bath and West Show attendances hit by War

1st Batt: In billets; 2nd Batt:The G.O.C. 2nd Divn (Maj. Gen. Horne) visited Battn and expressed his satisfaction at the behaviour of the Battn during recent operations and said that although it appeared we failed to accomplish the task allotted to us we played a most important part in assisting the remainder of the Division , and the 7th Division in accomplishing what they did. He expressed regret at the large number of casualties;3rd Batt: In trenches at Dickebush;

Royal Grammar School Annual Athletic Sports: The sports were held on Thursday, on the School Cricket Field, Flagge Meadow, in the presence of many visitors, under very pleasant conditions. Some good running and jumping were witnessed and all the events were keenly contested. Among the successes especially must be noted that of the cricket Captain of the School, C.H. Hemus, who won five events, and who broke previous records of the School in throwing the cricket ball 104 yds 2 ins.;

Bath and West Show: There was an air of greater activity about the Show early this morning, particularly in the trading sections, but the attendance was still small. The final figures last night were 1,136 (exclusive of season ticket-holders), as compared with 4,164 at Swansea…Practical instruction in beekeeping was given by the Worcestershire Beekeepers’ Association at intervals, and Mr. Ettle, the judge for the cider classes, gave demonstrations in grafting, pruning, and spraying;

Manager of local firm wounded: News has been received in Worcester that Lieut. Clifford J. Hart, Managing Director of Messrs. McNaught and Co., Ltd., who is attached to the 2nd Battalion Worcs. Regiment, has been wounded, and is now in Hospital in England. His wound is, fortunately, not serious;

Motor Transport Drivers: A special recruiting appeal for motor transport drivers was made in Worcester on Wednesday. Lieut. E.J.Davies, who came to Worcester to recruit for this branch of the service, obtained 33 men from all parts of the county. Nineteen of these have been sent away, and the others will follow at the end of the month.
