29th August 1914 - Lord Kitchener's Army

2nd Worcs Batt remained in billets at Servais. 3rd Worcs Batt left Tarlfesse at 1pm and marched to Valency, took up outpost position between the River Oise and Dominois. Relieved at 10 pm by Wiltshire Regt and ordered to take up line 1/2 miles north of Tarlfesse to Genvry.

A large number of Worcester firms, including the Berrows Worcester Journal and the Worcs Newspaper Co 'Herald' office had notified their willingness to reinstate any of their employees who joined Lord Kitchener's Army, once they returned.

The City War Relief Fund reached £1900; 2066 enlisted at Norton Barracks in 3 weeks.

The 9th Battalion of Worcestershire Regiment at Tidworth was now at full war strength.

Mr and Mrs A S Allen (Registrar of the County Court) were on holiday in the Austrian Tyrol when war broke out. They reached Worcester in safety 'after many vicissitudes in Austria and Switzerland' and received the heartiest of congratulations on escaping the dangers. Mr Allen has resumed his duties today.

25 recruits have joined the Yeomanry, 150 needed to take the place of those who cannot go on service abroad. Only good riders who pass a rigorous test at the Riding School at Barbourne are accepted for the Yeomanry;
